How do I secure my PC
The security of your PC is always under threat when you are hooked onto
a network where more number of people have access to your computer. The
internet also poses a certain amount of threat to your system. Here are
a few pointers on how to increase the security of your PC:
- Use a firewall to control what goes in and out from your computer.
- Use complex, hard-to-guess passwords and change them regularly .
D o not use the same password for everything.
- Get a good antivirus program and keep it updated.
- Clear your history files (like cookies,
internet history and temporary files, etc.), logs and personal files.
- Always log out of your e-mail programs instead of just closing your
browser. Also in a network, if you are away from your desk, make sure
you lock your system to avoid others accessing your programs.
- Remember to backup your files periodically.
- Use Adware and Spyware protection
programs to safeguard your system.
- Keep updating your system to the latest security patches introduced
by Windows.
- Remove unnecessary programs from your system.
- Do not download files from an unknown source.
- Use file-sharing sparingly. In a network if you need to share files
then do so with a password and disable sharing when it is not needed.
