How do I upgrade my router's firmware
Upgrading your firmware can improve the performance and reliability of
your router. But remember that before you upgrade the
firmware of your router you must make sure you have the correct firmware
update for your router based on the model and version number. Improper
upgrade of firmware can cause your router to stop working – the
functionality that you have currently may be lost.
If you are sure about your firmware, here’s how you go about it.
- Log into your router page. Under the Status option
you will see a Runtime code version. This is the version of your firmware.
Make a note of it.
- Go to your router’s website and see if your version of firmware
is current with the latest version. If it isn’t go ahead and download
the latest version.
- Keep track of where the downloaded file is getting stored –
in your desktop or any of the other drives.
- Now in your router page go to the firmware upgrade option. It should
be under Setup or Administration. The options differ based on your router’s
make.
- Browse and select the file you just downloaded and select upgrade.
