How to secure a wireless network?
Security is always a concern in networks especially wireless ones. Encryption
is the solution to this problem. Use WEP Encryption on your router to
safeguard your network. Here’s how you can go about doing it.
- In your Internet Explorer address box, enter the IP address of your
router.
- Log into your router page and click on the Wireless
tab.
Here’s how a Linksys router page looks.
You could use it as a guide to work on your router page.
- Select the mixed option under Wireless
Network Mode.
- Enter any name you want in the Wireless Network Name
– SSID box.
- Select the 6 - 2.437GHz option in the Wireless
Channel box.
- Enable the SSID Broadcast option.
- Click on the Save settings button.
- Now click on the Wireless Security tab.
- Select the WEP option under Security
mode.
- Select 64 bits 10 hex digits or 128
bits 26 hex digits option based on the encryption key
you want to generate.
- In the Key1 box enter the 10 digit number
for 64 bits encryption or 26 digit number for 128 bits encryption.
- Click on save settings.
This set of numbers will be the password for your network and your network
is now a secured network. You will see your network listed on your wireless
computer. You can log into your network using the password or network
key you generated.
